FAQ's
What is MIM? What does it mean?
The company MIMsafe is the creator of the FEI’s MIMclip, used in XC jumps in courses worldwide to make fences frangible, thereby helping prevent rotational falls.
How breathable are they? How many air vents do they have?
The boot's surface air vents (6 on the hind boot, 9 on the front boot) help release heat build-up inside the boot. The innovative open cell 'F6' high-density PU foam lining is breathable. The friction-free binding also helps breathability with thouands of tiny perforations or 'pores'.
How shock absorbing are they, and what are the strike guards made of?
The strike guard material is 100% thermoplastic resin, which is highly absrasion-resistant and fully bonded to the shell and lining. The strike guards are therfore integrated into the boot, remaining flexible yet fully protective (with the harness of plastic) and radiate shock away from the point of impact. The innovative open cell 'F6' high-density PU foam lining offers great cushioning and recovery from compression, so is very shock absorbing.
Whats the V front designed for?
The V-cut front edge of the boot streamlines the boot profile, eliminating a 'lip' where the top of the boot meets the front of the horse's leg.
Are the straps elasticated?
No, the straps are not elasticated. Because they are created with protection foremost in mind, they're injection moulded in one continuious piece as the boot outer shell, made of the same highly abrasion-resistant thermoplastic resin, which is stretch resistant. Adjustments to fit can be made via the 3 hook and loop tape straps. Non-elasticity also aids a close fit ensuring the boot won't slip or spin on the leg.
Do they hold water?
MIMsafe boots are made with a lightweight mesh lining which is treated to prevent water uptake. Submerging the boot for long periods is not recommended. Dry the boots in a well-ventilated area between wears.
Are they FEI, BE, BJSA or PC legal?
For BE, PC and FEI competitions, the MIMsafe front and hind boots are legal for the cross country phase of the competition. Only the front boots are legal for the showjumping phase where different rules apply.
You can wear MIMsafe front boots for BSJA competition. Different rules apply for hind boots, which MIMsafe hind boots do not meet.
How do I fit them? Does the fit come up big or small?
To find the right size, use a soft measuring tape, measure around your horse's leg at the appropriate points and measure the height from fetlock to knee. Compare to the size guide which is available on the relevant product page at lemieux.com.
The yellow markers at the back of the boot help to line the boot up correctly with the back of the horse's leg.
MIMsafe boots are designed to fit true to size. If you have any feedback on sizing, please do let us know.
How heavy are they?
Front - 192.67g
Hind - 222.82g
Can I put them in the washing machine?
Yes - follow the care instructions on the product page at lemieux.com. Wash in a wash bag on a cold cycle at no more than 30ºC
